Back	MARCH 08 - LEXUS OF ADELAIDE BLUE WATER CLASSIC Earlier this year, the waters of South Australia played host to the State’s premier yachting event, the 59th Lexus Blue Water Classic. This year was our third consecutive years as Major Sponsors but it was the first time we were able to enter our locally sponsored yacht, Spirit of Lexus. Built by Austral Yachts, the new Farr42 took to the water for the first time on February 22nd 2008 with 69 other yachts from around the country to compete in the Adelaide to Pt Lincoln race. The adverse weather conditions saw a record number of retirees from the Blue Water Classic with only 31 of the 69 entrants making it to Lincoln within the race time limit. The treacherous conditions meant that even the most experienced of sailor were put to the test. Line honours when to Skandia who crossed the line 15 hours and 54 mins after leaving Adelaide. Lexus of Adelaide would like to congratulate the following winners of the Lexus Blue Water Classic: Another Planet – Div 1, PHS overall and IRC Timewarp – Multihull Tiki – Cruising Azzura – Sydney 32 After the official race presentations at the Port Lincoln Yacht Club on the Sunday, the competition continued as the Lexus Lincoln Week Regatta kicked off on Monday. With 6 races around the picturesque throughout the week 41 yachts enjoyed some healthy race conditions with some leisure time in between at the annual BBQ at Spalding Cove. As Major Sponsors we were extremely proud when our locally sponsored yachts, Spirit of Lexus and Lexus Ocean Mentor claimed a double win at the Regatta. Spirit of Lexus yacht owned and built by local South Australian Michael Keough of Austral Yachts was victorious in the hotly contested IRC division while Ocean Mentor took out the closely contested Sydney 32 crown. This year’s event was hugely successful and we are pleased to announce that Lexus of Adelaide will continue their sponsorship of this iconic South Australian event until 2010.
